How To Get Fuller, Thicker Lips With Makeup
Introduction
People like Kylie Jenner have definitely brought the full lip look into trend. However, many of these celebrities and influencers rely on lip filler and injections to achieve their signature pout. While there’s nothing wrong with getting cosmetics procedures done, not everyone who wants to rock full lips is will it undergo such treatments or shell out that amount of money. If you’ve dreamed of having thicker, bigger lips, don’t worry! You’ll be happy to know you need to get needles stuck into your lips to achieve your desired look. All you need is some knowledge on how to apply makeup to create the illusion of fuller lips. In this article, we’ve compiled some of our favorite tips on how to get bigger lips with makeup. Keep reading to find out more!
Hydrate and Exfoliate
First things first, you want to start off with a good base. This means keeping your lips healthy and moisturized. We recommended exfoliating your lips around three times a week to get rid of any dead skin cells and keeping your lips smooth. You can purchase lip scrubs or create your own DIY sugar scrub or this step. You should also apply lip balm to your lips every day to keep them nice and hydrated. Keeping your lips moisturized prevents them from cracking, which makes it hard to apply lipsticks as they’ll often turn out flakey and cracked. Another tip is to rub an ice cube along your lips to increase blood flow. This helps to keep your lips plump and supple while making your lips a healthy pink color because of the increased blood circulation.

Neutralize Your Skin Tone
When applying lipstick or lip liner, you want the starting color of your lips to be as close to your skin tone as possible. To do so, apply some foundation or concealer over your lips to neutralize any pink or reddish tones. A lip or concealer brush isn’t required for this step. Simply use your fingers to apply and blend out your product of choice. Once you’re done prepping your lips, take a nude-toned lip liner that’s slightly darker than your natural skin color and line your lips. To create the illusion of fuller lips, you can bring your liner slightly above your lip line. Keyword — slightly! You may be tempted to go wild when lining your lips, especially since overlining seems to be the trend, especially on social media. But trust us, overlining your lips makes them look extremely fake and not to mention ugly. The trick is to make your lips look fuller but natural. To do so, you don’t want to apply lip liner more than one millimeter above your actual lip line. After you’ve done this, use a tissue to blot away any excess product. For concealers, try checking out Wet n Wild’s Photo Focus Concealer. As for lip liners, we like using BH Cosmetics’ Waterproof Lip Liner. Finish the look with subtle eye makeup looks for older ladies so the focus remains on your lips.

Add Instant Shine
Another tip to create the illusions of fuller, thicker lips is to use lip gloss. Apply from clear gloss to the center of your lips once you’ve applied lipstick and lip liner. Doing so makes the center of your lips pop, drawing focus away from the corners of your lips. What’s more, applying lip gloss also makes your lips look moisturized and healthy. You don’t have to use clear lip gloss for this, any shade of lip gloss works well. But, if you want to preserve the color of your lipstick then clear gloss works well. We recommend using Milani Cosmetics’ Diamond Lip Gloss. Other products that are equally as good include Glossier’s Glossiest Lip Gloss.
Milani Cosmetics Highly Rated Diamond Lip Gloss

Choose Natural-Toned Hues
Using brightly colored lipsticks when creating the appearance of bigger lips is slightly trickier as there’s a noticeable contract between your lip color and skin tone. As such, we recommend using nude shades of lip products if you want fuller, thicker lips. Natural colored lip products blend into the skin easier so if you overline your lips, they’re less noticeable. While the best red lipstick for all skin tones looks good, it probably won’t work with this trick. That said, most lipstick colors for dark skin would be okay. Another trick is to blend the edges of your lip liner or lipstick to further enhance the illusion of plumper lips. We recommend using your fingers to blend as it’ll leave your lipstick looking much more natural and subtle as opposed to using lip brushes. Of course, use the best setting spray you can find so it lasts long.

Highlight Your Cupid’s Bow
Last but not least, we recommend highlighting your cupid’s bow. You must be wondering, “where do you put highlighter for this hack?” Your cupid’s bow is the groove between your nose and upper lip. Highlighting this area creates the illusion of light reflection which makes your lips look thicker and fuller. To highlight your cupid’s bow, choose either a cream or powder highlight, and using either a pencil brush or your finger, lightly dab on some product. Check a good makeup brushes guide if you’re confused with which one to use for this trick. When applying a highlighter, you want to apply it in thin layers as opposed to putting on a lot at once. As such, we recommend tapping off any excess highlight before applying it to your skin. Remember, it’s always easier to apply more than remove excess product. Additionally, you don’t want to overdo it on the highlight because caking on too much makes your skin look greasy. Highlighters we recommend include Missha’s Satin Blusher and Rare Beauty’s Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight.
